The real gap between people: the level of cognition
Share
I believe many people have heard the story in Zhuangzi - Autumn Water:
The mountain torrents in autumn flowed into the Yellow River, making it wide and rough, so He Bo thought that all the good things in the world were gathered in himself.
Until he followed the current all the way to the east, to the North Sea, looking at a vast sea, He Bo realized how ridiculous his former perception was.
So Zhuangzi borrowed the mouth of the god of the North Sea and said, “The well frog cannot speak of the sea, and the summer insect cannot speak of the ice.”
The meaning is that one can never understand what is beyond the realm of cognition.
Like Hebe, most of the mistakes we make and opportunities we lose in our life are not due to our birth and environment, which are things we cannot change, but precisely due to our own cognitive limitations.
Only by breaking through the cognitive limitations can we recognize the world correctly and control the direction of our life.
In the face of setbacks, whether we are devastated or revitalized depends on the level of cognition.
Whether you are materially deprived or affluent is also determined by your cognitive limitations.
So the real gap between people is not in talent and background, but in the level of cognition.

What really traps a person is the cognitive limitations.
In life, many people have this experience:
thought they had found the road to success, the results of the more efforts to get farther away from the goal, until a long time later to find that they have been insisting on the point of view is wrong.
Visible, really trapped us, never is the immediate difficulties, but our cognitive limitations.
Cornell University psychologists Dunning and Krueger have proposed a widespread phenomenon of cognitive bias.
In short, the more ignorant people, the more likely to be blindly confident, which is the psychology of the famous “Ducker effect”.
This is the famous “Ducker effect” in psychology. People who are in the peak of ignorance are ignorant but not self-aware.
The villagers in this story were once at the peak of ignorance. Because of the cognitive limitations of reality, they didn't know that they could grow vegetables in addition to crops on the land, and they didn't know how to adapt to the local conditions, and they even looked down on the cadres who helped them to get rid of poverty.
As a result, they have been working hard on this land for generations, but they have never been able to get rid of their poverty.
Schopenhauer said, “The biggest prison in the world is the human mind.”
Trapped within a prison of one's own making, the harder one works, the more one fails, and the more one struggles, the more one has no way out.
If you can't step out of your narrow cognitive limitations and see the larger world, you'll have to keep living within the boundaries you've circled.
Not only will you miss the opportunities you should have seized, but if you are not careful, you may even fall into the bottomless abyss.
Only from the change of cognition, can we really get out of the predicament.
Break through the cognitive limitations in order to get the maximum value.
We have all heard the saying, “You can never make money outside your own cognitive range.”
But each has its own cognitive limitations, high level has high level limitations, low level has low level limitations.
If you can not cross out of their cognitive circle, there is no way to break the circle to make money.
Everyone will have certain cognitive limitations because of the limitations of their environment.
The process of breaking through cognitive limitations is the process of crossing different circles.
Only by maintaining the cognition of different circles will we have a more comprehensive understanding of the world, and it will be easier for us to see the essence of a thing, so that we can create the greatest value for ourselves.
As the movie “The Godfather” says: “The person who sees the essence in a second and the person who can't see the essence of a thing in half a lifetime are destined to have different destinies.”
From the example of Lei Jun, we can see that the reason why those envied successful people can always walk in the forefront of the times and make the right decisions at every critical junction of their lives can definitely not rely on luck alone.
They are able to create miracles because they have a huge advantage in terms of cognition, being able to maintain a high level of cognition as well as accurately capturing the sinking market.
If you want to maximize the value of your efforts, start with a cognitive breakthrough.
If you are dissatisfied with the status quo, instead of running with your head buried in the sand, you should spend more time trying to change the inherent cognition.
Get out of the cognitive limitations in order to see the moves and win in the end.
