Qingming Sweeping and Feng Shui Energy: A Family Fortune Conversation Across Time and Space
April 03, 2025 Column on the Seasonal Qi

一. Qingming Tomb-sweeping:Resonance and Reconciliation of Heaven and Earth Energy

The Qingming Festival is not only a day to memorialize the ancestors, but also a key point for the convergence of yin and yang, and the floating of the energy of the earth's chakra. According to I Ching and Feng Shui, the act of sweeping graves is a “dialogue” with the energy field of ancestors, and by adjusting the environment of the graveyard and one's own behavior, one can inject vitality into the family's fortune.

1. Energy Laws of Time and Direction
Choose auspicious times to avoid yin: The best time to sweep the graves is between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm (when yang energy is at its peak), avoiding the time when yin energy rises at dusk. If you need to relocate or repair a grave, three days before and after the Ching Ming Festival is an auspicious time to “open the door to the earth”, so as to minimize interference with the earth's chakra.
Paths and terrain: It is advisable to choose winding paths to avoid the “arrow brake” (such as high-voltage towers or long, straight highways) that can lead directly to the cemetery. The location of the cemetery should follow the “Four Spiritual Patterns” - Left Blue Dragon (water system or gentle slope), Right White Tiger (low level and no sharp corners), Front Chupacabra (open hall), and Rear Xuanwu (solid backing).

2. Energy Interaction of the Act of Sacrifice
Cleaning and repairing: Trimming weeds symbolizes removing bad luck from the family, filling in depressions in the graves can repair holes in the family's luck; tombstones need to be wiped down with water (avoid chemicals), and cracks need to be repaired in time to prevent the “family house from being restless”.
Offerings and directions: offerings in odd numbers (3, 5, 7 samples), apples (peace), cakes (prosperity) is preferred, avoid pears (away) and bananas (anxiety). Flowers should be placed on the southeast side of the tombstone (Xun Gua position, good for children and grandchildren).
Taboos: avoid stepping on other people's graves (triggering aura collision), noisy photography (disturbing the Yin Qi), before returning home, patting pants, stomping three times, sprinkle coarse salt net bad luck.

二、 Home feng shui: Qingming energy field upgrade
During the Qingming period, the energy of the yang and yin houses will form a “Taiji resonance”, home feng shui adjustments can amplify good luck.

1. Space purification and auspiciousness
Kitchen and toilet cleaning: the kitchen symbolizes wealth, need to keep ventilated; toilet clutter accumulation is easy to attract disease, can be sprinkled with coarse salt corner adsorption of Yin Qi.
Layout of balcony: Place green plants (e.g. Fortune Tree) or water decorations to activate the vitality of the “Green Dragon”; insert white chrysanthemums and lilies in the southeast to harmonize the yin and yang magnetic fields.
Lintel to ward off evil spirits: Hang seven willow branches tied with a red rope or a peach wood sword to ward off evil spirits for seven consecutive days to protect the house from evil spirits.
Worship method: those who can not return to their hometown can set up incense in the northwest of the living room, using a compass to locate the direction of their hometown, burn three incense cones to connect the ancestral spirit energy.

三、special people and taboo resolution
1. Pregnant women and the infirm
When sweeping the graves, wear a vermilion sand incense bag or obsidian stone and stand on the periphery of the graveyard; after returning home, use mugwort to boil water to purify your hands, and hang a copper bell on the bedroom door to disperse the bad qi.
If you have frequent dreams of the deceased, wipe your forehead with salt water (Tianmen acupoint) the next morning, and go to a temple to light a lamp to dissolve the “yin debt”.

2. Responding to sudden situations
When the wind suddenly rises: Immediately scatter glutinous rice in all directions, recite “The sky and the earth are clear, all evils are avoided”, and leave the place quickly.
After returning home, you will feel uncomfortable: soak your feet in coarse salt, light sandalwood incense to purify the space, and wear a lucky charm to restart your energy field.
Fourth, the scientific perspective: the modern interpretation of feng shui taboos
Balance of yin and yang and health: Ching Ming wet and cold easily lead to joint pain, tomb sweeping sunlight and physical activity is actually “complementary yang” way.
Psychological hints and cohesion: solemn rituals can relieve grief, and the collective act of sweeping can enhance the sense of family identity and stabilize the emotional magnetic field from a psychological perspective.

Balance between traditional wisdom and modern life
Qingming is a link between the past and the future. Feng Shui is not a superstition, but a crystallization of the wisdom of ancient people who observed the laws of nature. Whether it's restoring ancestral tombs according to the Four Spirit Patterns or harmonizing the energy of urban homes with greenery, the core of Feng Shui lies in “respect” and “purity. -We honor our ancestors with reverence and accept the gifts of heaven and earth with a pure heart. May all readers pass on the culture of filial piety and utilize feng shui energy to bring good fortune to their families during the Qingming Festival in 2025.
